Have you ever felt sad and as soon as you hear ...

Have you ever felt sad and as soon as you hear happy music you feel a bit better? Music is such a mood changer and, interestingly, it can help you with your physical health, did you know? Could music really impact your physical well-being? According to the American Music Therapy Association, it can!

The American Music Therapy Association details that music therapy programs can be constructed to manage mental stress, boost memory, and even eliminate pain.

A study in 2015 found that people who listened to music before, during, or after surgery experienced less pain and anxiety compared to those who didn't listen to music (reference from Healthline). The individuals that listened to music during surgery required less pain medication than those that did not enjoy music.

Data was gathered from 73 various trials and included more than 7,000 patients. With this information, music should be available to all individuals undergoing surgical procedures.

Music can also help with chronic conditions, including dementia, stroke, Parkinson's disease, and multiple sclerosis.

Music is everything and it can in fact help you mentally and physically.

Are you in the process of creating a recording ...

Are you in the process of creating a recording space in your house so that you can stay active during the pandemic but also have unlimited access to equipment of your own and not paying for studio time? If so, you should know that being at home can easily distract you but if you have a decent amount of willpower, you have nothing to worry about.

When you're not explicitly paying for booked studio time, you tend to place less pressure on yourself to act as if you are working. That can be a good thing because it means less stress but it can also lead to a loss of focus.

There's barely a moment of the day when we don't have access to social media, reading news updates, or watching TV. Everyone has their own level of tolerance to technology bans. So no matter how much willpower you have, it's worth turning off the iPad and your computer's Wi-Fi to remove the temptations. Don't trust your willpower? Simply remove as many distractions from your studio as possible.

Consider this key tip and you will make wonderful things faster and with fewer distractions!

Nowadays, it is becoming more common for producers and songwriters to set themselves up with their own in-home recording studios. However, there are some practical mistakes you should be aware of so that you can avoid them while recording in your home studio.

A common mistake that musicians may make when attempting in-home recording is relying too heavily on effects. It's easy to lean on effects, both pre-amp, and post-recording, to make up for the lack of clarity, warmth, and overall quality of a home studio recording.

Reverb is the most commonly over-used effect, which is frequently used to make recordings sound less flat or more professional. Pinpointing the proper amount of reverb to remove the flatness of a vocal recording is difficult even for experienced musicians.

Unfortunately, many artists make the mistake of drowning their recordings with reverb that the notes eventually become slurred together and completely indistinguishable. A good rule of thumb is to always try to record as clean as possible. Avoid pre-amp effects whenever possible, and only use effects to do minor touch-ups or additions afterward.

Due to the recent outbreak of COVID-19, having a home studio set-up has become critical for musicians and producers who want to continue staying active. However, having the gear does not mean that you have a professional recording studio. Understanding what mistakes can happen in a home studio and avoid them is key for a successful recording!

Creating as much isolation as possible in a space that probably wasn't built to keep noise out is a major task. If you're lucky enough to record in a custom-built studio, this will be less of an issue but if you're recording in a modified bedroom or spare room as a lot of people are, it could be a negative factor. If you have no choice and it is the only space available, then take the necessary precautions. Before recording, you should shut all of your windows and doors to stop external sound from getting in.

You should also do it so you the sound from your guitars, drums, or monitors being blasted out and irritating your neighbors. And, whenever you're recording using microphones, you should be sure to turn all of your mobile and landline phones off.

Consider your recording space at home as seriously as if you were paying for studio time. That will help you focus and make you equally as proactive!

You can click the learn more button to read other common mistakes to avoid and tips to help you.

Being a keyboardist or a musician in general means that you should know what brands offer you durable and high-quality instruments for the best price. That’s why we recommend you the Korg keyboards.

Korg's digital keyboards offer durable, yet rather expensive, instruments for experienced musicians who find themselves doing a decent amount of performing or touring.

Korg digital keyboards are generally made by other musicians, for this reason, they have a slight creative edge over the competition because they understand from experience what people need from an instrument.

-For the amateur musician, we suggest Korg's SP-280.
-For the experienced musician, we recommend the Korg LP-380

If you are looking for instruments made by and for musicians, Korg is the brand for you.

Additionally, at Atlanta Institute of Music and Media, we offer intermediate keyboardists the Music and Technology Associate Degree program! You can check that here: https://www.aimm.edu/programs/degree/keyboard

If you are an established keyboardist or a beginner, the process of choosing a keyboard to buy when there’s plenty of options, brands, types, and even colors, can be a little overwhelming situation. One of the most recommended keyboards we know will work for you is the Roland keyboards.

Roland keyboards are wonderful for their similarities to real pianos. They offer a sound that mimics the tone of a Grand Piano so well that if you close your eyes you wouldn't be able to tell the difference.

If Roland is what you are looking for, we recommend these depending on your level of skills:

-For the amateur musician, we recommend the GO: KEYs
-For the experienced musician, try Roland's next-generation RD-2000 Stage Piano

Besides having an incredible instrument, getting the perfect guide to help you get your career started is also a great option. At Atlanta Institute of Music and Media, we have the Music and Technology Associate Degree Program for keyboardists.

Are you looking for an online music college? This decision shouldn’t be taken lightly since you spend tons of time and money to get the best education you desire. But how can you know if the college you are interested in is actually the best option for you? Here’s a little bit small tip to be aware of when searching: Virtual Open House Events

While you’re dealing with the stress of narrowing down potential music school options, here is a question to ask yourself: how are the music schools assisting your decision? Are they just canceling tours and saying sorry? Or, are they putting together strategies and online events to help make life easier for you? Music colleges are a significant financial expense, so you want to at least have some taste of what to expect.

An option that has been utilized to help students receive the best, and safest, exposure to a music college is a virtual open house. From the comfort of your home, you can meet some of the instructors, have questions answered, and learn more about the music programs.

This is a dynamically great opportunity to know for sure if you want to apply to a college or another.

How to Get Your Music on the Radio

Tips to Submit Your Song to a Radio Station

When it comes to new artists promoting their music, there is an abundance of options and opportunities available.

However, having a variety of options can be a little overwhelming and can make it difficult to find the best methods that suit your ambition, needs, and means.

We live in a world of instant gratification and music lovers can find a new song at pretty much any turn. That being said, getting your music played on the radio is still one of the most effective ways to get your music to the masses.

Up until very recently, having one of your songs played on the radio was a luxury, something that only artists signed to major labels benefited from.

However, times are certainly changing, and new alternatives are being put into place to encourage the discovery of new artists on the radio.

But airplay can still be tricky to secure, so you'll need to be patient and take the right steps.

So, what are the best ways to get your music on the radio?

We'll answer that question in the article below.

Choosing a school where to invest your time, de...

Choosing a school where to invest your time, dedication and a few years of your life can be overwhelming. Imagine twice that pressure when choosing from distance or online. That’s why there are some key points you should look for specifically to help you decide where to apply to. One of these is this: Who Are the Alumni?

Every music college will tell you that once you graduate with your degree or certificate that the sky is your limit. While this may sound exciting, how do you know that the opportunity is truly there? A good idea is to spend a little time looking into the music college's alumni. You shouldn't have to do a ton of research here. Music Schools should have a page dedicated to their alumni and lists of their accomplishments.

It should be said, however, to take a reasonable approach with alumni. If you don't recognize any alumni from a school does that mean they are a failure of an institute? Absolutely not. Between hard work, connections, and a little luck, many high-profile artists never attended a music college.

Instead of just simply looking at the list of alumni names, take note of their achievements. Where do they work? Who have they worked with? Have they earned any awards? The answers to those questions should give you insight into how the music college's alumni do after graduation.

Have you been interested in applying to an onli...

Have you been interested in applying to an online music college but you are not sure? Here’s a tip to help you choose the perfect place for you during the pandemic:

-Look at Reviews
If you're stuck between two restaurants that serve similar food, how will you choose between them? The one with the higher reviews, most likely. That is what statistics say, as 90% of consumers read online reviews before visiting a business. Choosing a music college is no different.

Take the time to check reviews, whether it be Google, Facebook, or wherever you'd like to search.

See what current and past students like and don't like. Make sure the aspects of a music college you prioritize are held in high regard and take notes on what students say could be improved.

Music colleges are a significant expense for the majority of students, so taking a few hours to ensure most students had an enjoyable experience is time well spent.

You can read about our alumni success and their experiences at Atlanta Institute of Music And Media. Also, our online programs have their curriculums at hand so that you can read what the programs consist of and if they sound like what you are looking for!

Before a singing performance, you can be really nervous and you might want to get a relaxing time to free your mind and have a cup of coffee. However, having a cup of coffee is not the best idea considering that:

-Coffee makes you go to the bathroom often and you never want to be dehydrated during and before a vocal performance.
-On top of drying you out, caffeine can constrict your muscles, leading to an unnecessary amount of stress on your vocals that could leave a negative lasting effect for a few days.
-Consider no coffee or caffeinated tea before a vocal performance. Coffee can actually be a strong irritant to your throat.

Instead of coffee, you could try decaffeinated tea. There are teas great for vocal performance out there!

A healthy, well-balanced meal an hour or two before a performance will give you the energy you need for the performance. Skipping out on the coffee-boost won't be detrimental.

Going out for some drinks with friends can be fun. However, if you are a singer, drinking can turn into a bad thing for you and your voice, especially before a performance. Alcohol does a lot of damage to your throat. That's why it's important to not consume any of the following drinks:

-Beer: Like soda, beer can give you gas and a bloating feeling. Your diaphragm won't feel relaxed which is essential to proper singing.

-Wine: Not quite as bad as beer, but some brands of wine and severely dry your throat out. While you don't want too much phlegm, a dry throat can cause strain when singing.

-Mixed drinks: The problem with mixed drinks is all the sugar they often add to these drinks. As mentioned above, the increased and processed sugar will add mucus and decrease your flexibility.

Being a singer doesn't mean no drinks, in case you love it, but it's better if you do it after a performance to not damage your voice.

Milk and cereal are a great combination for a quick meal; however, if you are a singer, milk clings to your throat and creates extra mucus, something you surely don't want if you are performing soon.

You will consistently feel like clearing your throat during the performance and lack significant flexibility. For some people, milk can cause acid-reflex. Definitely, not a good thing to occur during a performance.

The excessive phlegm can give the impression that your voice is cracking as well. For your best interest, you want to stay away from milk and all dairy, including excessive cheese and milkshakes, too.

Being a good singer is more than just technique and an amazing voice. It requires willpower to stay healthy, so take your time to prepare meals to not hurt your voice.
