Atlanta Institute of Music and Media Lists 7 Factors To Choose the Best Music School

Atlanta Institute of Music and Media shares a blog post explaining how to choose the best music school. It is not easy to choose the right music college, states AIMM, adding that there are so many important factors to consider when looking for the best music school. “The music college that you pick will have a lasting impression on your music industry career.” The top school of music in Atlanta states that the decision should be made seriously in order to get the right education.

AIMM identifies that the location of the music school as the first factor to consider as it will affect the student’s future music career as they will be spending a lot of time in the city. “Think about this in terms of connections. Is the city your music school is located in the area you want your connections to be?”

how to choose a music school

Another important factor on the list is the type of music programs available. The top Atlanta music school advises choosing a college that offers the type of musical training one seeks. “If you are interested in music production, you should not choose a music school that only offers instrument-based programs.”

According to AIMM, a student should find a music program and curriculum that perfectly encapsulates what they are keen on learning and reflects what they would prefer doing in the music industry.

There are some important questions that require answers before determining the best music school, states the blog post, listing a few questions to ask music schools before making the right choice. This includes types of programs, courses, classes offered, in addition to the audition and application process.

Another important factor is audition preparation. The top school of music in Atlanta advises preparing for an audition for at least six months before the deadline in order to be accepted into the music school of choice.

The Atlanta Institute of Music and Media explains the importance of finding a music school based on its exceptional faculty in their area of study because they play a pivotal role in the student’s music education and networking opportunities.

Damon Fonooni, the Director of Music Production and Audio for Media for Atlanta Institute of Music and Media, advises to, “take some time to check out their bios, what they have accomplished, and if they are still working on projects now. Don't get caught up in name value. Just because you haven't heard of an instructor does not mean that their experience doesn't hold any weight.”

Successful alumni is another category that prospective students should spend a little bit of time looking into. “That isn't to say that a music school needs to have world-wide superstars exit their doors. However, if there are a couple of music schools that you are stuck between, take a peek at their alumni page (if they do not have an alumni page, that is a major red flag).”

The Atlanta Institute of Music provides performance opportunities for students, with an emphasis on workshops and live clinics. Damon Fonooni suggests, “Be thorough when doing your research, you want to choose a music school that is going to provide the right opportunities for you to grow as a musician, engineer, or music producer.”

The Atlanta Institute of Music and Media offers both on-site and online music programs to cater to students across the globe.

The Atlanta Institute of Music and Media is a pioneer in the world of music education, dedicated to helping music enthusiasts acquire knowledge and training in their favorite field or genre.

Can you imagine how much music and projects you...

Can you imagine how much music and projects you could do if you were only focused on that without worrying about anything else? Unfortunately, life isn't so simple and as much as you want to focus on music 24/7, you must have a balance between your personal life and work by using time in a smart way. Here's how you can do that:

-Eliminate Time-Wasters
You can get caught in a trap of thinking you don’t have enough time for music, but in reality, if you cut out the things that are wasting time or not getting you closer to your end goal, then you would have that time to work on your craft.

-Work Smarter, Not Harder
Beyond scheduling and prioritizing, remember that you have plenty of tools at your disposal. Do you feel like you keep missing your scheduled practice/production times or you book sessions with clients and can't remember the exact dates or times?

Where smartphones can be a downfall in terms of wasting time, they can be a great ally for scheduling or growing your music following via social media. Your smartphone never leaves your side, does it? Why not use that to your advantage instead?

You can also manage your time by applying to our online music certificate programs!

Atlanta Music School Lists 5 Best Laptops for Music Production

The Atlanta Institute of Music and Media explains the need for tools and instruments and identifies 5 top music production laptops. AIMM is rated as one of the best Atlanta Music Schools and offers exceptional recording and music production courses. The article stresses the importance of the best technology to produce, mix, and master music.

“Music producers need to utilize the best laptops they can get their hands on so their machines can keep up with their music.”

best music production laptops

The Atlanta school of music suggests using a laptop with a good processor and RAM to be able to tackle multiple tracks. For music producers who are always on the road, AIMM advises using a laptop that can “handle a drop or two as well as wear and tear from being in a bag a lot of the time.” This may include thin and light laptops that are easy to carry around.

The Atlanta music institute shares a list of the top five laptops for music production. MacBook Pro for Music Production tops the list, with 32 GB RAM, 2.6GHz 6-core Intel i7 processor, and up to a 512GB solid-state hard drive. The article lists several features of the MacBook Pro that make it unique while advising budding music producers to avoid the regular MacBooks.

“You can get your MacBook Pro for around $1300 (starting out).”

The second on the list of AIMM top laptops for music production is Microsoft Surface Book 2, which is a tablet and an extremely versatile machine. The top music school in Atlanta rates Surface Book 2 as the best of best with Intel i7 6-core processor, 256 GB of storage, 16GB of RAM, and a 15" touchscreen display.

“If you opt for the 15" display (which is the minimum you should consider) and 256GB of storage, you're looking at about $2000 for the Microsoft Surface Book 2.”

The third on the AIMM list is Lenovo IdeaPad Y700, which gets a top spot for its powerful processor, “a terabyte of storage, serving up impressive speeds for a non-SSD with its quad-core Intel i7 processor.” AIMM states that its amazing graphics card sets it apart from the competition. The laptop comes with only 8 gigs of RAM, and the battery lasts 4 to 5 hours.

“The Lenovo has fantastic processing, and if you happen to be a gamer as well, this laptop is perfect for you. Produce music by day and play a little WoW or Sims on the side.”

Some like-new options are priced under $1000 on Amazon.

ASUS ROG Strix G15 comes next on the list of top laptops for music production. AIMM finds that the ASUS ROG is great for nearly any performance-intensive task with a ton of ports. The laptop comes in 15" model and 17" model. Anybody interested in bigger screens may find ASUS ROG a great option but “You just have to remember that bigger screens can negatively impact your mobility,” suggests the Atlanta school of music.

Last on the AIMM list is HP Spectre X360, which is a beautiful, versatile, and powerful 2 in 1 laptop with a folding 4K touchscreen. “The 15" model with an 8th generation Intel i7, 16GB RAM, 512GB SSD, and a Radeon RX Vega graphics card is an excellent laptop for any music producer.”

The laptop comes with USB Type-A and 2 USB Type-C ports and an SD card reader and an HDMI port.

“The versatility and price point of the Spectre X360 an excellent choice for a WIndows-based music production laptop. You can order your HP Spectre X36O for about $1150.”

The article lists some minimum specifications that a budding music producer should seek in any laptop. This includes the right CPU, with at least 17 quad-core core and a minimum of 2.2Ghz frequency. Another important requirement is the RAM storage, which AIMM suggests, should be between 8GB and 16GB.

Hard Drive is another important criterion. AIMM recommends a “minimum of 256GB of internal storage and 500GB of external storage.” AIMM suggests 15" of screen size, which is easier to carry around.

As an AVID Pro Tools Training Partner, the Atlanta Institute of Music and Media prides itself on being one of the top music production schools for engineers and producers that want to learn the best insider tips regarding recording, mixing, and mastering.

A budding music producer should try to explore the list of laptops shared on the AIMM top tools and instruments for music production and get the best bang for their buck. AIMM warns, “The last thing you want to do is get stuck with a cheap machine that can handle the simple tasks you need it to perform. You don't want to get a laptop that takes the fun out of your profession.”

One thing's for sure, you don't want to look ba...

One thing's for sure, you don't want to look back at the beginning of your career and regret the way you learned to play the guitar. That's why, even if you consider you already know a lot, take a look at these guitar tips and see if they can help you!

-Stay Disciplined When You Practice
There is a difference between practicing with a purpose and just fooling around. Practicing with a purpose will yield quick results, but fooling around doesn't accomplish much of anything. Discipline and real practice will make you succeed at learning how to play the guitar.

-Play With Other Musicians
Learning to play by yourself is admirable, but it can eventually cause a lack of motivation, or you'll hit a brick wall and won't know what to do next. One of the easiest ways to progress your playing is to play with other people. Find people you can play with on a semi-regular basis and see how it goes. Additionally, a big benefit of playing with other people is developing the ability to listen, know when to lead and know when to step back.

-Challenge Yourself
When you begin playing guitar you will likely find a comfort zone after a few months. Whether it be particular chords, specific scales, or a singular band's cover TABs. While having this comfort area to fall back on is great, it is important to push forward into unknown territory.

If you are looking forward to getting a music c...

If you are looking forward to getting a music career, there are industry myths and misconceptions you should know of so that your expectations and career remain as real as possible. Here are some of the most common misconceptions you hear about the music industry:

1. Overnight Sensations
Let's eliminate this misconception once and for all: Overnight sensations are a myth in every industry.

Sometimes it might seem like someone emerged overnight, but when you dig a little deeper, you'll find that every artist works for years before they "blew up overnight." So, even though you may not have heard of them until now, it doesn't mean they haven't been working for years to finally make it.

2. You Have To Be Naturally Talented
The old "innate talent vs. hard work" argument. There's a huge misconception that everyone who makes it as a musician was born naturally talented, and people often think that they can't become a good singer or guitar player because it doesn't come "naturally." That couldn't be further from the truth.

Every artist you have ever listened to has spent a bulk of their life perfecting their craft. No one just rolls out of bed and sells millions of albums.

When becoming a musician, you will start hearin...

When becoming a musician, you will start hearing music industry misconceptions that you might know are not true by personal experience. Here are some common ones:

1. The Industry Always Pays Well
Some artists are paid well but there are many more that are not. The main goal of many artists is to have their music land on a Spotify playlist, be heard by millions, and make lots of money. However, the amount of money you make per stream may surprise you; musicians earn about $0.00437 per stream, which means you need about 2,500 people to listen to your songs to make the same amount of money you could make off of selling one album. Imagine playing to an arena of 2,500 people and getting $10 for your trouble.

2. I Just Need One Hit
We all know about the one-hit wonders. But what about the stars with two and three hit songs? Many of them are still barely scraping by.

Whether you have a hit song or not, if a record label doesn't sign you, all of the booking, marketing, recording, and business tasks are your responsibility. Getting signed to a record label may feel like last decade's goal, but it is a good point when you truly think about it.

One hit is most often not enough to retire on. Knowing what to do after the hit is what makes or breaks a musician, especially if you are on your own.

If you want to become a musician or work in the...

If you want to become a musician or work in the music industry, you should know what you're getting yourself into so you can be prepared and make the best choices to succeed. Any career has misconceptions and the music industry is no exception. Here are a couple of the music industry's common misconceptions:

1. If You Perform Enough Gigs You Will Be Discovered
Some musicians do get discovered, sure. Counted artists were lucky to be discovered but even more fortunate to actually succeed. Many artists that get "discovered" never actually make it. Tons of musicians will still play as many gigs as possible or spend hours trying to be the next viral hit on YouTube.

Playing gigs, getting experience, and diving into your local music scene is super important but if you're playing gigs and sharing music, you need to have a plan.

2. Likes = Ticket Sales
An easy way to develop a following and market your music from your couch is social media. That is exactly why so many musicians, artists, and bands use it.

Standing out and gaining followers doesn't translate to profit and ticket sales. Especially if you use non-music techniques to attain your followers, like sharing memes or buying followers (which we do NOT recommend). Building a base of genuine fans of your music slowly is more important than having useless followers.

The more interest you have in a music college, the more questions you might have. Although our music programs curriculums are incredibly displayed for you to read, you might be wondering about some other things that are not related to them, such as costs, financial aid, housing, among others. That's why we have here some of the frequently asked questions we receive:

-1. Does AIMM offer the necessary equipment for students to complete their coursework?
Yes, our music school's studios and computer labs are outfitted with all the hardware and software required to complete students’ coursework. We also offer students the purchase of an additional “Tech Kit". The "Tech Kit" is not included in the cost of tuition, it's an optional expense.

*The purchasing of the Tech Kit is handled through a third-party website called Vintage King.*

-2. How can I send my transcript if my school is closed?
AIMM accepts transcripts submitted electronically. School officials can send transcripts as an attachment from an official school email address or have an official transcript sent via the transcript service that your school uses.

Contact your school and request that they send us your official transcript. Transcripts sent electronically from a student email address will not be accepted.
